Precious Treasures Pre and Primary School is a duly registered Company under the Companies Ordinance of the Turks & Caicos Islands and is a fully licensed Educational Institution by the Education Department. Our facility is located on Discovery Bay Drive, Providenciales, in the Turks & Caicos Islands. We have been the recipient of God’s abiding Grace and Favor since our inception and we give Him praise for His continued blessings. Paraphrasing Psalm 127: 3-5 “Children are a heritage of the Lord and blessed is the man that has his quiver full of them”.

This Ivy League and prestigious institution, now known as Precious Treasures Primary school, started its humble genesis as the first professionally operated Day Care and Pre-school on Providenciales and opened its door to students in February 1989. During this period it catered to children between the ages of six weeks and five years old. The idea of a daycare and preschool program was borne out of a need to provide affordable and healthy childcare services in a stimulating environment. Precious Treasures started with two students, Sharalyn Robinson and Laura Mensen. Proprietor Mrs. Yvonne Hutchinson was their first teacher. The enrolment grew rapidly and within the first few months, our first member of staff, Mrs. Florence Ewing, was employed. Ms. Florence, as she is affectionately called, is still with us today.

The Pre school curriculum was professionally designed to holistically prepare pupils for entry into the primary school system. The program evolved and drew from a number of theories and methodologies, selecting those methods and ideas that best suited the needs of our diverse community. The school at that time, occupied one room of a large house (known as Edmond Ewing house) located along the Blue Hills road. The building then, housed the Newman’s Prep school. After one year of operation, the Prep. School relocated to different premises, while Precious Treasures remained at the Blue Hills location. Our Pre-school program was well received by the community and within a few years it had outgrown the facilities. The overwhelming demand for the program eventually forced the school to seek and develop a new home.

In 1991, we purchased approximately 1.5 acres parcel of land at a concessionary rate from Provident Limited and set about to develop the first custom - designed day care and Pre-school facility in the Turks & Caicos Islands. With personal funds and a mortgage from Barclays Bank, a 5,400 sq. ft. custom - designed facility was constructed. In 1995 we moved into our own facility, which was officially declared opened in 1996. Since then, another 7,000 square feet of building has been added, to include 4 additional classrooms and a multipurpose auditorium.

Although Precious Treasures started primarily as a Daycare/Preschool and we successfully provided the services, albeit many times at a loss, we still managed to cope until 1996 when we decided to discontinue the daycare service because it was no longer viable. Our decision was due to the rapid growth of the Island’s economy and the introduction of new, and in some cases unregulated centers that were charging lower or same rates despite operating from substandard facilities and managed by untrained personnel.

The discontinuation of the daycare service allowed us to focus on the development of another service- Primary division. Due to the rapid population growth of the Islands and the academic performance of our (5) year old graduates, we were encouraged by parents to continue on into Primary Education. We deliberated this extension for a long period of time, and finally introduced the Primary curriculum by adding one grade per year. In 2000 we celebrated our first primary school Graduation. Since that time we have consistently achieved and maintained a high academic standard of 100% passes and earning constant high appraisals from past and present Ministers of Education and the Department of Education.

Since its inception, Precious Treasures School has impacted the lives of many students in a positive way. This is evident in the achievements and demeanor of past graduates of this institution who are studying at home and abroad, and those who have successfully completed their tertiary education and returned home to make a positive contribution to our society. We also get reports from several expatriates who have returned home and have faithfully kept us abreast of the progress and successes of their child/children.
